

Sanford, Eleanor Marie Barker 85, long time resident of Montgomery, Alabama passed away Sunday July 9, 2023, after suffering a stroke. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Glenn Foster Sanford and her parents Joesph Dekalb Barker and Eleanor Pebworth Barker. She is survived four of her children, Evelyn Renee Boudreaux, Eleanor Michele Pittman, Marinda Lenn Sanford McRae, and Glennda Marie Hollon. Marie is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Renee is married to Lionel A Boudreaux which gave Marie two grandchildren Aftan Knoll Anson and Kayla Boudreaux Falgoust with four of Maire’s great grandchildren Knox Anthony Falgoust, Nash Michael Falgoust, Kai Marcel Falgoust and Rhyan Rose Falgoust. Michele Pittman married Otis E Pittman and have 3 of Marie’s grandchildren: Joseph Braylan Pittman, Jacob Terane Pittman, and Sabin Allaire Pittman. Marinda Lenn Sanford McRae is married to Michael A McRae with two of Marie’s granddaughters Brianna Noelle McRae and Alexis Michaela McRae. Glennda Marie Hollon is married to Bobby D Hollon with three of Marie’s grandchildren Austin Glenn Evans, Brandie Alena Evans, and Robert Foster Hollan.
Marie and Glenn spent the first 10 years of their married lives serving their county as part of the Air Force where they moved to several different counties and experienced many diverse cultures together while raising the first two of their four daughters.
Eleanor Marie Barker Sanford was the first graduating class for Robert E Lee then went on to earn her Registered Nurses’ education from Saint Margaret's and later earned her bachelor’s degree from Saint Joseph’s College. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and later became a member of St. Bedes Catholic Church. Marie was also a member of many clubs and organizations, just a few include Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Confederacy, First Families of Virgina, Descendants of the Mayflower, Families from Valley Forge, 317 Veterans group and so many more, to say they least she loved her history and knowing she was part of it.
Marie’s passion for her family, church and history will be missed.
Marie’s Visitation will begin at 10.00 Thursday July 13, 2023, at Leak Memorial with the Celebration of Life Service following at 11:00. Priest Alex. Will officiate and the burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
