Essie Claire Thompson Arant, 102, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 in Chattanooga, Tn. She was born September 8, 1909 in Highland Home, Alabama and was a long time resident of Montgomery. Essie retired from Southern Bell after 43 years of service on April 30, 1971. She was preceded in death by her parents: Otis and Sharon Thompson; husband: Daniel Fearon Arant; daughter in law: Dorothy Arant; and granddaughter: Mary Claire Arant Blackshaw. She is survived by her son, Charles Arant of Chattanooga, Tn.; Grandsons: Lee Arant of Atlanta; Scott (Debbie) Arant of Dunwoody, Ga.; Granddaughter: Amy Arant of Atlanta; Grandson in law: Brian Blackshaw of Atlanta; 5 great grandchildren; Step grandchildren: Lee (Kathy) Greene of Memphis; Janie (Mark) Scudder of Suwanee, Ga.; Jennifer Greene of Seattle, Wa.; and 5 step great grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 pm Sunday, April 22 at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Glen Pugh officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until 2 pm at Leak Memory Chapel.
