Eva Russell Slay

SLAY, Eva Russell, 96, a long-time resident of Montgomery, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2017. She resided at Charlton Place in Deatsville, Alabama, since November. Mrs. Slay was predeceased by her first husband, William (Bebe) Baltzell, Sr., and her second husband, Willam W. Slay. Eva was also predeceased by her sister, Mary Dover, brother, Sydney (Dink) Russell, Jr., niece, Cindy Dover McEachern, and her grandson, Andrew Marsh Baltzell. She is survived by a son, William W. Baltzell, Jr. (Jacqueline); grandsons, Russell W. Baltzell (Stephanie), & Juan Gil (Joanna); great-grandchildren, Matt Baltzell (Arden), Zara Baltzell, Sophia Baltzell, Ariana Gil, & Olivia Gil; great-great-grandchildren, Cambrie and Andrew Baltzell; niece, Shirley Dover Raines (Jim-deceased); nephew, Ted Dover (Brenda); and many great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Slay worked for Montgomery Water Works for 20 years. She also volunteered at Archives and History for over 25 years, and also at Baptist East Hospital. She was very active at Capitol Heights United Methodist Church, where she was a member for years. She was active in the East Montgomery Pilot Club, and was a current member of the Millbrook First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017, at 10 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, followed by her Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM, with Rev. Jerry May officiating. Private Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made in Mrs. Slay’s name to Millbrook First United Methodist Church, or to Friends of Alabama Archives.
