

Fred R. "Buck" Knighton Jr., age 76, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023. Born in Montgomery, Alabama to Fred Knighton Sr. and Irene Champion Knighton, he was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Johnny Knighton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Evelyn Heath Knighton; his children, Suzie (Steve) Campbell and Mark (Anita) Maxwell; his grandchildren, Steve Campbell Jr. and great grandsons, Jax and Sam Campbell. He also leaves behind siblings, Jean (Robert) Cauley and Wayne (Judy) Knighton; and nephew Chuck (Joy) Knighton and their children, Christian Knighton, Ashlyn Knighton and Briana Barton.
After a tour in Viet Nam with the Navy, he returned to Alabama to serve in the Air Force and Army National Guard. An avid Alabama football fan, he loved watching games. A man of faith, he attended Victory Church of Wetumpka. He and Evelyn enjoyed camping, early on in tents and gradually working up to RVs. They were a part of the monthly adventures of the Heart of Dixie Ramblers covering much of the U.S. with a group of camper friends. Known for his great sense of humor, Fred had a warm and gentle spirit that made folks feel at home. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A friends and family visitation for Fred will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life chapel service at 11:00 AM. Services will conclude with a graveside in Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. Charles Chamblee will officiate.
