RUSSELL, Helen Claire McNeill 95, died peacefully on March 7, 2022 in Hendersonville, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 45 years, Jack L. Russell. Helen was born in Pine Level, Alabama on February 15, 1927. She worked as a Personnel Director for WV Coal and Coke prior to being a mother and homemaker. She moved from Alabama, and lived in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan and finally Tennessee returning to Alabama at one time as well. She enjoyed that homemaker and mother role and was quite a competitive and avid golfer and bridge player. Later in life, she also added the sport of tennis to her activities. She shared that love of card games and other sports with her grandsons still keeping that ever constant competitive spirit. All of us remember her showing off her dance skills first doing the jitterbug with her husband and then the “funky chicken” with all the kids. Sightseeing in Florida with the grandchildren watching the turtles lay eggs in the dark of night, traveling to the Kennedy Space Center, swimming, enjoying the beach, card games and sports gave those grandchildren something to enjoy. Helen always returned to Pine Level every summer for the majority of her life to visit with her mother and 8 other brothers and sisters and their families. She will be missed by many. Mrs. Russell is survived by her daughter, Janis Russell Singler and husband Reeder C. Singler, three grandsons Ryane, Matthew and Andrew, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 14 at 1:00 pm at Pine Level United Methodist Church with a family and friends visitation one hour prior from 12 to 1:00pm. Flowers can be sent to Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery.
