Hellon Jean McLemore

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene McLemore, brothers, Edward & Jimmy Slaughter, and sister, Merioum Carter.

Surviving are her son Chuck McLemore (Wife - Terri), two daughters Jenny Cook (Husband - Harris)and Becca Gillham (Husband - Brad), grandchildren: Laura Williams (Husband - Cory), Connor McLemore (Wife - Moriah), Jason Cook (Wife -Catie), great grandchildren: Harmony and Brave Williams, Grey McLemore, Grant and Bradley Cook, and great-great granddaughter: Sadie Mae Cook.

Jean was born in Paxton, FL on October 28, 1932 to William Elias and Bessie Virginia Slaughter. She graduated from the Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing at UAB, and served in the ministry of medicine as an RN for 30 years in the Montgomery area.

She and her husband, Eugene, married in 1958. They served as faithful members at Capitol Heights Baptist Church in Montgomery for over 50 years. They were affectionately known as Mama Jean and Papa Gene. She was always ready with a prayer, a hug and an encouraging word. She will be remembered as a faithful wife, loving mother and sister, and trusted friend. Her hands spent countless hours in creative handwork, writing cards and letters, gardening, reading and cooking.

Thank you, Mother, for teaching us to pray, read God’s Word and most of all, to love like JESUS. 🩷
