LCDR (RET.) James (Jim) Butler Capps went to be with his Lord on Thursday August 23, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents John Capps and Ona Lee Smith Capps; brother, Walter T. Capps, and his sisters, Dixie Louise Smith, Sally Jo McNeill and Edna Earl Penning. He is survived by his loving wife Magdalena (Beth); two sons: James (Jim) Robert and Richard, two daughters: Sherry Lynn Capps and Linda Diane Blastow (Bob); grandchildren: Rebecca Lauren Blastow, Lacey Madison Boutwell (Eliott), Taylor Jackson Boutwell (Margaret) and Illeana Nicole Capps; two great-grand daughters: Ella Madison Bahr and Leah Grace Capps; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Capps; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Mr. Capps retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of dedicated service. He entered the USN at the age of 18, as a Seaman Recruit and rose to the rank of Lt Commander. He was a decorated sailor who served two terms in Vietnam. His specific personal awards include, 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 15 Vietnam Air Campaign Air Medals, 4 Navy Commendation Medals, a Navy Achievement Medal with a Combat Valor Insignia and various unit and personal awards. Upon retiring from the Navy, he worked for Ford Military Sales in Angeles City, Philippines where he met the love of his life Beth. He then came back to Montgomery Alabama in 1991 where he lived the remainder of his life.
Visitation will be held on Saturday September 1, 2018 at 10:00 am at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home followed by a full Military Graveside Service at Greenwood Cemetery at 11:00 am.
