Jean Houghtby

She was preceded in death by her parents, Davis and Lois Moseley; her sister Annie Butler; her husband, James K. Houghtby; her beloved sons, Davey and Don Welch and their father Warren Welch.

She is survived by her daughter-in-love, Donna Welch; three grandsons, Brian Welch (Jennifer), Jeff Welch (Jamie) and Ryan Welch (Gayle); 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter; two loving nieces, Gloria Marsh and Jenny Lee and nephew, Bill Butler, and her namesake, Stacey Jean Starling.

She is also survived by 2 stepsons, Larry Houghtby (Pat) and Gary Houghtby (Luana); 4 step grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren.

Jean was an active member of Dalraida Methodist Church. She loved music and sang in the choir for 60 years, belonged to the Good Fellowship Sunday School Class, Altar Guild, Missions Committee and United Methodist Women.

Jean was an avid gardener belonging to Scattered Seeds Garden Club, past president of Montgomery Federation of Garden Clubs, held several positions on the board of Garden Clubs of Alabama, and past Director of District VI. She enjoyed Tuesdays playing Mah Jongg with dear friends, Eunice, Maude and Barbara.

A Wednesday, February 11, visitation will be held at Dalraida Methodist Church located at 3817 Atlanta Hwy., Montgomery, AL 36109 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. The Celebration of Life Service, a musical funeral at her request, will be at 2:00 pm with burial service to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Jean was the epitome of a true southern lady, loving and gracious in all her words and deeds. She loved BIG and was loved by many friends, neighbors and family. She will be greatly missed.
