

She was preceded in death by her son, John H. Nelson; her husband, Art Nelson; and her parents, Ivey T. Massey and Thomas K. Massey.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Jana Nelson Martin; her son-in-law, Jerry Martin; her granddaughter, Dr. Mackenzie Martin; and her grandson, Madison D. Martin; dear friends, Heather and Brian, and cherished relatives Andy, Mickey, Sarah, Brent, Norah, Maddie, Sharon, and Gary.
Jeanne was born in Tuscaloosa, AL, graduated from Crestview High School in Crestview, FL, in 1941 as valedictorian, and had a 20-year career as a Health Educator with the American Lung Association branch offices in Montgomery and Atlanta and in the National office in New York City. She was a Civil servant during and after the war. Jeanne was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church Montgomery, was a Pink Lady at St. Margaret’s Hospital, and was a member of the Montgomery Garden Club, and the Zonta Club. Jeanne loved her family, her friends, and her co-workers. She enjoyed playing the clarinet and the piano; was a wonderful cook and loved pimento cheese sandwiches; was dedicated to service as a volunteer; loved reading; and wrote wonderful short stories about her childhood. She also loved being a Girl Raised In the South.
Jeanne lived a full and wonderful life in her 101 years, bringing joy to all those who knew her and were touched by her caring. Her legacy will continue.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at White-Chapel Greenwood Funeral Home in Montgomery, AL, with burial to follow at Leak Memory Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
