
JOANN BIRD BROCK passed away May 4, 2020. She was born June 11, 1931 in Register, GA to the late Wilma and Sam Bird. At Register High School, she played forward on the basketball team that was runner up in the state championship tournament. In 1948, she graduated from the Southern School of Business in Atlanta, GA where she worked and met her husband. They moved to Mississippi and then to Montgomery, AL. She was a founding member of Normandale Baptist Church and later a member of First Baptist Church. She took flying lessons, soloed and received her pilot’s license. She enjoyed her Sunday School class, playing bridge, reading, University of Georgia football and going out to eat with friends. Most of all she adored spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She loved having her family at her home; children playing ball, climbing trees, outings to the zoo and eating her homemade goodies. The zoo was dear to her heart as her husband helped develop it and she loved animals. These wonderful memories will be her legacy passed down to future generations. Joann was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Casey Brock. She is survived by her son Eugene Casey Brock II (Wesley) of Charlotte, NC and her daughter Tasha Brock Bates (Billy) of Birmingham, AL: grandchildren Brooke Bates Vinson (Chris), Allison Bates Farlow (Bo), William Brock Bates, Wesley Chanler Brock and Eugene Casey Brock III: great granddaughter Ann Bates Farlow and her brother Samuel Norman Bird, Jr (Mary Anne). Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic there will be a private graveside service with immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX; The Montgomery Zoo, 2301 Coliseum Parkway, Montgomery, AL 36110 or your favorite charity.
