John Cochran Cantey

Cantey, John Cochran “Jack”, 88, a lifelong resident of Mathews, Alabama died January 21, 2012. Jack was the youngest of nine children born to Harry and Ruth Cantey. He was preceded in death by his son, Harry Cantey. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Reeves Cantey and daughter, Mickie Cantey. Also surviving him are two sisters, Zara Grace of Montgomery and Evelyn Owens of Oneonta, Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews. Jack will be remembered for his quick wit and humor, love of poetry and baseball and being a steadfast friend. He was a member of Pine Level Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Visitation will be Monday, January 23, 2012 from 4:00 – 7:00 at Leak-Memory Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 24, 2012, 1:00 at Leak-Memory Chapel with Rev. Lenny Bolton and Rev. Danny Shadix officiating. Burial will follow in the Tompkins Cemetery, Shopton, Alabama. Active pallbearers will be James M. Cantey, W. D. Cantey, Jr., David Abernathy, Marty Trawick, Rob Abernathy, Rich Pirsig, Beau Yarbrough, Jimmy Reeves, Jay Reeves and John Cantey. Honorary pallbearers will be W. B. Bartlett, Jack Jackson, Bob Sadler and the deacons of Pine Level Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Pine Level Baptist Church, P.O.
