John Albert Hughes, age 91, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2022. John was born August 2, 1930 to Alvah O. Hughes and Edgar K. Hughes Sr. He was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. He was most recently a member of Eastwood Presbyterian Church. John was a veteran of the US Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He retired from CSX Railroad which was formerly known as the L and N. He was a man who enjoyed life but spending time with his family is what he enjoyed most of all.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Dorothy McNabb Hughes; his daughter Pam Cox (Keith); and his daughter Kelly Brendle (Bill); his grandchildren Ashley Scoggan (Steven), Matthew Cox, Evan Britt (Jonathan) and John Cox. He also had four great grandchildren Gus, Henry, Anna, and Lydia.
John was preceded in death by his father Edgar K. Hughes Sr and his mother Alvah O. Hughes; his brother Edgar K. Hughes Jr; his sister Alvah Joan Hughes and his brother David O. Hughes.
A family and friends visitation for John will be held Saturday, January 15, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Leak Memory. Following the visitation a Graveside service at 2:00 PM at Greenwood Cemetery.
