John "Sam" R Jones III

Jones, John R. "Sam", 77, was born and raised in Montgomery, AL. He passed away in Pensacola, FL on February 3, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jones, Jr and Alarea V. Jones, and his sister Lauran Berry.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Catherine Anthony Jones; his step-son Willam B. Boland, his step -Daughter Catherine Shea Moon (Jim) and grandchildren Zoi Jane Moon and Jonathan James Moon. Also survived by his sisters Mary Shoaf (Ken); Cheryl "Sherry" Corlee (Allen) and Kathryn "Kathy " Weatherford (Joe). He also leaves several nieces and nephews .

Sam served in Vietnam and was a member of the VFW Post 5035 where he served as Commander and Quarter Master. He was also a lifetime member of Military Order of the Purple Heart. Sam retired from United Parcel Service in 2003 after 33-year career, moving to Lake Martin to enjoy his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, volunteer work at Children's Harbor, Auburn Football, and time spent with family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday Feb 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM with family and friends visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM and burial in Greenwood Cemetery immediately following the service.
