It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John W. "Billy" Ludlum, a beloved husband, father, friend, and lifelong hardworking man, who passed away peacefully at his home in Lapine, Alabama, on May 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 72 years old.
Born in Tallassee, Alabama, Billy was a man deeply rooted in Southern values— faith, family, and hard work. Married for 50 years to the love of his life wife, Brenda, he built a life defined by devotion, laughter, and enduring love. Now, he is reunited with his beloved wife, a comforting thought to all who knew the strength of their bond.
Billy began working at the age of 14 and went on to open his own restaurant, Reeves Drive-in, also known as the Dairy Queen, a warm and welcoming place where friends, family, and neighbors always felt at home. After opening the restaurant, he worked for 38 years at Hager Hinge, while also working at Advanced Auto for 5 years, where he brought the same dedication, reliability, and heart to every task.
He loved deeply-his family, his work, his friends, and Alabama football. He never met a stranger and lived each day with loyalty, humility, and kindness. His presence lit up every room, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Brenda Ludlum; parents Annie and David Ludlum Sr; sisters Helen O'Barr; and Jackie White; brothers David Ludlum Jr. and Joesph Ludlum
He is survived by his daughters Regina (Steven) Lowe and Amanda (Jessie) Ludlum. Granddaughters Danielle Caffey and Haylee Johnson; Grandsons Sterling (Alycia) Lowe and Dalton Lowe; Brother Robbie (Phyllis) Ludlum; Great Grandchildren: Alyanna, Marley, Jimmy, August, O'Rya, Addison, Laelani, and Arryanna
