
Joseph Daniel "Dan" Freeman of Deatsville, Alabama and formally of Montgomery, passed away Monday, August 1, 2016. Dan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlena Moore Freeman, daughter Ann (David) McDonnell of Huntersville, North Carolina and son, Charles (Cindy) Freeman of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Bradley Thomas McDonnell, Jesse Martin McDonnell, Carina Ann McDonnell, Malanah Kim McDonnell, Lydia Jo McDonnell, Jackson Myatt Freeman and Harrison Moore Freeman; brothers, Harry Wayne (Helen) Freeman of Athens, Georgia and David Paul (Beverly) Freeman of Ocala, Florida. He is preceded in death by a son, Thomas Moore Freeman, and his parents, Nina Ruth O'Shields Freeman and Leonard Derward Freeman of Anniston, Alabama.
Dan was born New Years Day, 1941 in Gadsden, Alabama, but called Anniston home after moving there as a young boy. He graduated with the Class of 1959 from Anniston High School. He went on to attend Abeline Christian College in Texas and graduated from Jacksonville State University. Dan enjoyed a distinguished career of nearly 30 years with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. During his professional career, Dan served on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society, board member and past president of the Central Alabama Chapter of Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU). Dan also served as LUTC Chairman for two years and taught numerous CLU and LUTC classes.
Dan was a long-time and faithful member of the Druid Hills and Vaughn Park Churches of Christ, serving as deacon and treasurer for 16 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the Thomas (Tommy) Moore Freeman Memorial Fund at Vaughn Park Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
