Leila DelValle, age 94, of Montgomery, Alabama passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025. Leila was born in Puerto Rico to Augustin and Joaquina Ramirez. Leila bravely left Puerto Rico and moved to New York. Earning a business school degree, she worked in a secretarial role in New York and gave birth to her 4 children. Later her family left to move to Dothan, a smaller community to bring up children. They left Dothan to settle in Montgomery in search of better business opportunities for her husband, Vincent DelValle. She joined a Spanish club in Montgomery and met many wonderful people. Leila will be remembered as a homemaker and wonderful mom who raised bilingual children as she shared her Puerto Rican culture. She loved reading, soaking up sunshine and doing things for others. An angel in disguise, she was loved deeply by her children and grandchildren. Always giving, expecting nothing in return, Leila was a godly woman who loved coffee and sweets, going out for breakfast and enjoying family meals in the homes of her children.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Augustin and Joaquina Ramirez; her husband, Vincent DelValle, who she missed dearly especially after his death in 2016; and her siblings.
Leila is survived by her children, Beatrice (James) Thorne, Melva (Thomas) Buckelew, Ivan DelValle, and Julia (Gary) Stewart; her grandchildren, Kendal Thorne, Sara Elizabeth Buckelew-McNeil, Christina Razick, Justin Stewart; Leila Stewart; and great grandchildren, Mason, Laura, Thomas, Izzy, Christopher, Kaden, K.K. and Kameron.
A family and friends visitation for Leila will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 2:00 PM at White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral Home, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life memorial service at 3:00 PM.
