

Louise Blackburn Candler, cherished wife, loving mother, adored grandmother and great grandmother died peacefully on Christmas day surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Albert Randolph Candler, her sister, Charlotte Blackburn Grover Beck and her brother Clarence Flynn Blackburn.
She is survived by her son, Albert Randolph Candler III of Montgomery; two daughters, Susan Candler Samuel (Jeff) of Montgomery and Laurie Candler Schobelock (Dave) of Hobe Sound, FL; two granddaughters, Katherine Samuel Brown (Richard) of Birmingham and Laura Samuel Meyn (Till) of Fort Worth, TX. She joyfully welcomed her five great grandchildren, Leslie Allen Brown, Frances Candler Brown, and Richard Benjamin Brown of Birmingham and Samuel Henning Meyn and Susanna MacIvor Meyn of Fort Worth each time they visited her at the family home on Perdido Bay, where she loved to float in the water and tell stories on the porch. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Louise met and married her devoted husband Randy when he returned from the war to find her working as the new bookkeeper at Clark, Bowling and Candler Cotton. She was a tireless volunteer in the Montgomery community, spending many hours at Alabama Shakespeare Festival’s Will’s Guild, Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts’ Museum Shop, The Montgomery Junior League, Alabama Dance Theatre, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Antiquarians and many others. Having lost both parents when she was 13, she had a special place in her heart for the Presbyterian Children’s Home, Brantwood and other organizations serving children.
A celebration of her life will be held Friday, December 30 at 11 a.m. at Leak Memory Chapel. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Pallbearers will be Shapard Dowdell Ashley, William T. Ashley, Jr., Robert Anderson Bowling, William L. Lee III, James L. Loeb, Joseph Dimmick Thetford, and Peyton Clark Thetford. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, make a donation to your favorite charity.
