Lura Glass

Lura Sutton Glass was born August 23, 1925 to the late Birdie Sutton and William Curtis Sutton. She passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022 after a lengthy illness.

Lura grew up in Whatley, Alabama and, in 1949, married Ben B. Glass Sr. They made their home and raised their three children in Montgomery.

Lura was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She worked for the State of Alabama as a stenographer in the Revenue Department and retired from the Banking Department.

A member of Cloverdale Baptist Church for over 65 years, she was active in all areas of Church life. She loved to study the scriptures and tried to live according to those teachings. She was known for her generous service to other people.

Lura was predeceased by her husband Benjamin B. Glass, Sr. and son Mike Glass. She is survived by her daughter Janice Williams (Richard) and son Ben B. Glass, Jr (Kim). Grandchildren Melissa Williams Womack (Jon), R. Michael Williams (Gail) and Ben B. Glass, III (Whitney). Great grandchildren Clayton Womack, Matthew Womack, Lura Grace Williams, Ali Glass, Josiah Williams and Jacob Williams. Additionally, her two sisters Pat Buchanan and Martha Dumas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to her caregivers and the Amedisys Hospice Staff, who have all been her friends and made the last months easier.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at 10:00 am at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cloverdale Baptist Church or one's favorite charity.
