Maerene Wise

Wise, Madge Maerene, 89, a resident of Montgomery, AL passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born to Charles Horace and Lottie Mae Owens on March 21, 1935, in Daleville, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Cupidean Plant and brother- in- law Malcolm Plant, brothers Charles Owens and Rex Owens, daughter Rhonda Blitz, and son-in-law Dan Blitz. She is survived by her son Gary Wise (Michele); grandchildren Sam Blitz (Jessica), Alexandra Wise Smith (Bud), and Walker Wise (Bailey); great grandchildren Brooks Blitz, Barnes Blitz, Ann Pelham Smith, and Charlie Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Maerene loved her family with all her heart, and this love showed in everything she did. Mae Mae, as her grandchildren fondly called her, was a familiar face at and active supporter of all of her grandchildren’s sporting events from the football, baseball and softball fields to the volleyball court and golf course. Her love of the Lord also showed in everything she did, and she was a faithful servant all her life. She loved her friends dearly and enjoyed spending time with them going out to dinner, playing games and watching Alabama sports. Heritage Baptist Church and her church family were also integral parts of her life. She joined the church in 1991 and was active in the Senior Life ministries, as well as a member of the Voices of Victory choir, Joyful Servants Life Group and the Women’s Ministry Union. Maerene retired from Alfa Insurance after working in the accounting department for many years. The family expresses their sincere thanks to the nurses, aides and all the staff of the North Hall at John Knox Manor, where Maerene received excellent and loving care over the last year and a half of her life. Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson’s foundation or the charity of your choice.
