Marion “Bebe” McCarter, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend and treasured member of the Titus, Alabama community, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025.
Bebe was born to the late Joe H. Stanley and Virginia W. Stanley and was preceded in death by her sisters Sylvia Johnson and Marcella Haynes, as well as her cherished grandson, Derek Fouts.
A life-long resident of Titus, Alabama, Bebe was a beacon of dedication, kindness, and service. She was a proud graduate of Auburn University and Troy University, earning both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Education. Her career in education spanned over four decades in Elmore County, where she touched countless young lives with compassion and wisdom. Most notably, she served as the Assistant Principal of Wetumpka Elementary School, where her leadership and nurturing spirit left a lasting legacy.
Bebe’s faith was central to her life. She was a lifelong member of New Home Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as the church organist for 40 years and taught Sunday School. Her music, service, and steadfast faith enriched her church family and community.
Beyond the classroom and church, Bebe’s generosity extended into volunteer work throughout Elmore County. She was a dedicated “Pink Lady” at Elmore County Community Hospital and actively participated in numerous volunteer and social organizations. Her love for her community also shone through her work managing Joe’s Fish Camp on Lake Jordan, a legacy of her father’s, and a place she held dear.
An avid reader of the Bible, a fierce Scrabble competitor, and a Wheel of Fortune enthusiast, Bebe was as spirited as she was wise. She found great joy in tending to her garden, spending time at the lake, sharing stories with loved ones and spending time with her grandchildren. Her mentorship, warmth, and gentle strength touched all who knew her. Later in her life she made friends with many of the dedicated sitters and staff at the assisted living facility who helped care for her.
Bebe is survived by her daughters, Mary “Connie” Bailey of Montgomery, Alabama, and Susan Fouts (Craig Fouts) of Encinitas, California. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Janice Holman; her grandchildren, Wendy Broome, Candace Bailey, Sandy Graham, and Carmen DiNunzio; and eight great-grandchildren.
In honor of Bebe’s memory and her generous spirit, memorial donations can be made to New Home Baptist Church or the Auburn University Alumni Association, organizations she contributed to and held close to her heart.
Marion “Bebe” McCarter lived a life of purpose, faith, and service. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she shaped and the love she gave so freely. She was truly a rare jewel and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
