

MARY ELIZABETH BLANCHARD, a resident of Montgomery for more than seventy years, departed this life on Sunday, November 22nd, 2015, at the age of 93 years. She is survived by her son, William R. Blanchard, Jr., her granddaughter, Kathryn T. Blanchard, and her daughter in law, Louise W. Blanchard.
Born Mary Elizabeth McKinney on April 29, 1922, in Cypress, Florida, she ultimately made her way to Montgomery and attended the School of Nursing at St. Margaret's Hospital for four years, graduating as a registered nurse. She then worked in the offices of the late Dr. John L. Branch, a local surgeon, for more than twenty years until his retirement from practice. She was married to William R. Blanchard, Sr., a Marine Corps veteran of WWII, who worked for the U.S. Post office, and later for the State of Alabama. He preceded her in death in February of 1981. Since that time, she had lived independently in Montgomery, tending to her pets and garden, but mainly to her friends and family. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves many friends and extended family members, all of whom will remember her fondly, and miss her greatly.
There will be a graveside service at 2:30 PM on Sunday, November 29th , 2015, at Greenwood cemetery, followed by a visitation for family and friends at 3011 LeBron Road in Montgomery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Montgomery Humane Society, or the American Cancer Society .
