

Matthew John Moncus, age 33 of Montgomery, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 12:00pm – 1:30pm at Leak Memory Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm, with burial following at Greenwood Cemetery. Matthew graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Alabama State University. He played the trumpet in the marching band in high school and for three years with the Alabama State University Marching Hornets where he was lovingly known as the “White Hornet”. Matthew was a member of the Alabama Civil Air Patrol from 6th grade until he reached his 23rd birthday. He attained the rank of Lt. Colonel as a Civil Air Patrol cadet and as a Captain in the Civil Air Patrol adult program. Matthew obtained a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo and participated in several competitions. He was an avid fan of the University of Alabama football program and was always quick to say “Roll Tide”. He enjoyed everything about computers especially playing video games. Matthew was a caring gentle soul who was a blessing to this family. He loved animals, especially Barney and Ginger. He is survived by his father: Richard Holt Moncus; his mother: Kathy Jean Gillam Moncus; his sisters: Shawn Moncus-Missildine (Kenny), Bettina Moncus, Donna Moncus O’Brian (John), Jackie Moncus Jones (Will); his nieces: Rachal Missildine Hightower (Brad), Alysha Moncus, Megan Missildine; his nephews: Johnny O’Brian, Joshua O’Brian, Andrew Jones, Ryan Jones, Brian Gardner, Evan Jones, Joshua Gardner and Sam Jones; his uncles: Douglas Gilliam, Crozier Junior Moncus, and Gordon Moncus; his grand-nephew: Bowen Hightower and his cousin Monica Moncus. Pallbearers will be Kenny Missildine, Will Jones, John O’Brian, Joshua O’Brian, Brad Hightower and Andrew Jones. The family wishes to thank the teachers and faculty at Vaughn Road Elementary School and Wilson Elementary School for their love, kindness, and support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate a gift to the Montgomery County Humane Society in Matthew’s name.
