Nell Keeton Watson, a longtime resident of Montgomery and recent resident of Auburn, passed away on December 26, 2021, at the age of 94. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Patty) and husband Milton, and daughter Kathy (Kat) and loving partner John. In addition, she leaves behind two grandchildren, Heather (Bob) Moffett, and Travis (Aimee) Stokey, along with 4 beautiful and cherished great-grandchildren, Catie, Bobby, Abbie and Lainee. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Ballenger, and her most special niece who was always there for her, Virginia Talley, and grand-nieces Jennifer, Leah and Ginger as well as many other nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward A. Watson, and her parents, Lois Keeton and J. U. Keeton.
Nell spent her career until retirement with ATT and Bellsouth Telephone Company, beginning as a telephone operator to eventual Business Service Manager. Her spirit of generosity was known to friends and family alike. She fed snacks to neighbors children after school when they were hungry, made a prom dress for a neighbors cousin who couldn’t afford one, helped countless family members/friends who needed funds for transportation, saved coins for a niece to help her get the college books needed for class and so many other generous deeds too many to mention. All acts were done not for recognition, but because of the love and pleasure that came with giving.
The family is so appreciative of the loving care Nell received for nearly 5 years from the wonderful caregivers, CNAs, nurses and administrative staff at Azalea Place Assisted Living. She counted them all as friends. Our appreciation also goes to the entire staff at Bethany House (Hospice Facility) in Auburn. They made sure her last days were spent pain free and with peaceful transition into the arms of her Lord Jesus.
Nell loved her church family at Trinity Memorial Baptist Church and shared an abiding love and deep faith in the Lord. Family and friends may attend the Celebration of Life Memorial service at Leak-Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama, on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Stan Holt officiating. Cremains will be interred immediately after the ceremony at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery, 3001 Simmons Drive, Montgomery, Alabama.
Flowers are welcome. Memorial contributions may be sent to Trinity Memorial Baptist Church, 2700 Old Selma Road, Montgomery, AL 36108; or Hospice Angels Foundation, c/o Bethany House, 1171 Gatewood Drive, Bldg. 100, Auburn, AL 36830.
