Nellie Richardine Thompson, 90, of Lake View, Alabama, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Known as “Dee” to all her friends and family, she was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie Lee Parker and Osban Crout Halbert; husband, Alex (Tommy) Thompson, Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth Glass (Bobby); and grandson Jody Bush. She is survived by her loving and devoted children, Jan Walton (Don), Linda Wilkinson, and Larry Thompson (Pam); seven grandchildren: Chris Bush, Jeff Schofield (Shawn), Jonathan Schofield, Brian Wilkinson (Jenny), Mandy Newell (Adam), Michael Thompson (Nancy), and Laura Jackson (Kyle); and ten great-grandchildren.
Dee was born in Quitman, Mississippi and spent her younger years growing up in Carmichael, Mississippi. After marrying the love of her life, Tommy, the military would transfer their growing family to several different locations, before settling in Montgomery, Alabama for 40 years. They later moved to Lake View, Alabama to be closer to family in their aging years.
Dee loved her family and friends deeply. She was a master storyteller of her many journeys through life, pulling you into her most descriptive memories, as if you were traveling right beside her. She was a wonderful woman, friend, wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed and always remembered for her many strengths and wisdom.
A visitation among the family and friends will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday, October 2, 2020, with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Greenwood Cemetery. Attendees should be mindful of social distancing.
