

MECHANICVILLE – Nicholas D. Forte, Jr., 72, a former longtime resident of Mechanicville, New York, died on Easter Sunday, April 17th, at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, Alabama following a brief illness.
Born in Troy, NY on May 4, 1949, to the late Adriana (Thelma) and Nicholas Forte, Sr., Nick was a 1967 graduate of Mechanicville High School. For most of his adult life, Nick worked for state and federal government. He began his career as Senior Administrative Analyst for NY State Council on Children and Families in Albany, NY. He then worked as an analyst for the NYS Dept of Tax and Finance Tax Appeals from 1998–2002. After moving to Alabama, for the next 20 years, he worked for Gulf Coast High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) as Director of Operations, retiring in February of this year. He was a member of St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church.
While in his beloved hometown of Mechanicville, he established and ran the Mechanicville Girls Lassie League and traveling team. Nick also ran a youth basketball league at the local community center where he served as a former vice-president of the center. He was a former member of his hometown zoning board and the local Elks Lodge, a former member and past president of the Mechanicville City School District Board of Education. Additionally, he was very proud to have been elected to serve as Mechanicville’s Commissioner of Finance from 1998–2002.
Family was of the upmost importance to Nick. He adored his children, sister, grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as many friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Nicknames he lovingly responded to were Nicky, Uncle Butch, Papa Bear and Poppa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Sami Morris Forte, his wife of 23 years. Survivors include his son Nicholas D. Forte III, daughters Heaven (Jason) Brewer, Jennifer (Kyle Turek) Forte, and Lauren (Daniel Butts) Forte, sister Nancy (Philip) Bailey, grandchildren Bella Brewer, Gabrielle and Lexie Turek, nieces and nephews Philip and Joe Bailey, Kristin Bailey-O’Keefe, Miles Dunn and Amber Dunn-Manning and his beloved canine “Minnie,” and a host of lifelong friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 30th at 11 AM at All Saints on the Hudson Church, 121 North Main St., Mechanicville, NY with burial to follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery. Family and friends will gather at the church from 10 AM until Mass at 11 AM.
