Nina Celestial Lee Simpson Brown was the daughter of Sarah Atrice Simpson and Charles Obed Simpson of Benton County, Mississippi. She is survived by her husband, William Arthur Brown; a brother, Sammy Simpson; three children: Gary Brown, Deborah Brown Wyatt, and Ginger Brown Rodwell, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Nina accepted Christ as a child and this was reflected in her Christian life during her lifetime. She graduated from high school in Blue Mountain, MS, where she played basketball and received her AA degree from Northwest Mississippi Junior College at Senatobia, MS. She served on the staff of the Baptist Ridgecrest Camp in North Carolina for two years. She also worked in Memphis and First Baptist Church of Fort Walton Beach, FL. She met her husband while attending college and they married in New York City, New York, on CBS's "Bride and Groom Show" on December 31, 1951. She enjoyed bowling and bowled a perfect game once! After her marriage, she devoted herself to her family as she traveled with Bill to many military locations. She made wherever they were a home for her family. She was an active member of the Officer Wives Club. They had two tours overseas in England and Turkey, which were challenging with a young family. She was blessed with the opportunity of traveling to many places, including the seven churches listed in Revelation of the Bible and the Holy Land. In the United States, she was privileged to see places like the Seattle Washington Space Needle, the Statue of Liberty, and the Archway in St. Louis, Missouri. Other tours were in Texas, Oregon, Alabama and Florida. When Bill was on remote tours, she remained the stabilizing force for her family. After retiring, her love of flowers and gardening made her an active member of a garden club.
Nina was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She was a spiritual person and never gave up a chance to talk with people about her Lord. Wherever Bill's tour of duty was, they immediately joined a church and were active in all church activities, including visitation. Her other activities were teaching Sunday School, choir member, and member of WMU. Her Bible was worn from her reading and highlighting passages she loved. She will be remembered for her kindness and her love of her Lord and her family. The family requests that any donation be made to Global Outreach International, Box One, Tupelo, MS 38802, or any Christian organization.
