Norbert is survived by his wife, Linda Schaefer; son Matthew Schaefer; daughter Kay Villano; step-daughter Tracy N. Bone; and step-son John David Nichols; his brothers, Vernon Schaefer, Conrad Schaefer, Roger Schaefer; his sisters, Rita Sheedy and Elizabeth Smith. His grandchildren include: Ryan Schaefer, Alexander Schaefer, Christopher Gonzales, Brian Bowden, Amy Bowden; great grandchildren: Briana Johnson, Grace Roy, and his step grandchildren; Hailey Nichols, Taylor Nichols, Chad David Nichols, Kinsley Nichols and Bradley David Nichols.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers; Paul Schaefer, Fredrick Schaefer, Herbert Schaefer, Benno Schaefer; his sisters; Marcella Perrin and Florence Schmitz; and an infant son, Brian Matthew Schaefer.
Norb was born and raised in Adams, Minnesota and after a term with the Army, his vocational ventures led him to Montgomery where he worked as the district manager with the Hormel plant. He enjoyed his work and was known for always helping others. He played a little golf (enough to muster a hole in one) and was an avid sports fan. He pulled for the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Gophers during football season and favored Auburn football just to have something in common with Alabamians.
A visitation for Mr. Schaefer will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM in the Parish Hall of St Bedes Catholic Church, 3870 Atlanta Hwy., Montgomery, AL 36109. A funeral mass will follow at 11:00 AM. A committal service is set for Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 3:00 PM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
