Patricia (Pat) Bloom Dees, after battling long term brain cancer, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2025 . . . in the arms of her daughter Jane Leslie Dees Speigner. Pat, age 80, was born on October 30, 1944 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Pat lived a life rich in kindness, tradition, and service. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School where she met the love of her life, John Allen Dees, Sr. - together they attended the University of Alabama. Over their 53 years of marriage, she and Allen shared their journey celebrating the births of their two children, the late John Allen Dees, Jr and Jane Leslie Dees Speigner and building their several businesses. Pat had a wonderful gift of bringing people together. Whether hosting gatherings in her home or volunteering to adorn others’ celebrations with her famous flower arrangements and gourmet cooking. She found happiness in creating beauty and sharing it with those around her. Pat was a devoted member of Temple Beth Or and volunteered much time developing and organizing Temple and community-wide events. Pat's leadership extended to her professional life where she was a respected and influential figure in the national fund-raising industry.
A gifted historian, Pat had an innate ability to bring the past to life. Her love of antiques, art, and storytelling connected generations, ensuring that traditions were preserved and cherished. She found endless joy in her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored and showered with love - they affectionately called her “Buddy”. Her solace was tending to her much-loved garden, attending estate sales, playing her weekly card games, watching The Antiques Roadshow and sharing her extraordinary talents to help others. Pat’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and leadership, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Betty Roswald and Harold William Bloom, Sr.; her husband, John Allen Dees, Sr.; her sister, Edna Jane Bloom; her son, John Allen Dees, Jr.; and her grandson, Samuel Virden Morse III. She is survived by her daughter Jane Leslie Dees Speigner (Lee); her brother, Harold William Bloom, Jr.; (Anne); her grandchildren, John Tatham Dees, Leslie Hammer Dees, and Amelia Lee Glenn Speigner; her daughter-in-law, Marion Hammer Dees; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, in addition to many close friends.
Visitation will be held Sunday at 1:00 at Temple Beth Or, followed by a funeral service at 2:00, officiated by Rabbi Scott Looper. Interment will follow at Eternal Rest of Oakwood Cemetery.
