Rita was one-of-a-kind. She was 4'11" with lots of personality and would light up a room with her smile and southern accent. A beloved wife, mother, family member and friend. Even in the face of cancer, she was unstoppable as she continued to be devoted to her family and was everyone's biggest cheerleader. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she took pride in "blessing" them. Rita loved to dance and once entered a dance contest with her dad and won! She enjoyed passing out tins filled with fudge that she baked during the Christmas holidays. She was also an avid Auburn fan.
She graduated from John I. Burton High School in Virginia in 1979. She was a faithful and dedicated employee of Civil Air Patrol Auxiliary of the Air Force for 20 years and Vanguard for 8 years.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Billy and Lelia Stover and her brother, Allen Ray Stover. She is survived by her husband, Barry LaBarre; her son, Anthony Mims; her daughter, Ami LaBarre; her grandchildren, Preslea Fayth Cornett, Jacob Mims, Natalie Brenna Mims; her brother, Scott Stover and numerous well-loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life gathering for Rita will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109.
