Robert Edward Harris, known affectionately to many as “Just Bob,” was born on April 16, 1937, in Dawson, Alabama. He spent most of his life in Montgomery, where he attended Sidney Lanier High School before continuing his education at Troy University.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later continued his commitment to service through a long and dedicated career with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 37 years. He also served with honor in the Alabama Air National Guard. Never one to remain idle, he became a licensed real estate agent following his retirement, embracing yet another opportunity to connect with and help others.
A faithful and active member of Eastmont Baptist Church, Bob served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. His gentle spirit, generous heart, and compassion for everyone he met made him beloved by all who knew him. To family, friends, and neighbors alike, he was a steady presence—kind, humble, and always ready to lend a hand.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Barbara Norton Harris; his son, Gregory Scott Harris and his wife Michele; and his treasured grandson, Brannon Scott Harris. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Harris Maraman; a niece and nephew; and a great-niece and great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson Harris and Vernell Rains Johnson, and his brother, Richard Thomas Harris.
He enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams, traveling, and spending time with the people he loved most. Bob was deeply loved, and his warmth, kindness, and abiding faith will be dearly missed by all whose lives he touched.
