Robert Lee Henderson, lovingly known as “Bobby” and “D,” passed away on April 16 at Jackson Hospital after a courageous battle with illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emerald Henderson; his brothers, Jimmy and Dean Henderson; and his sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Henderson Money.
He is survived by his longtime friend and the love of his life, Mary “Nell” McInnish; his brother, Eddy Henderson & family; and his son, Robert Judkins Henderson (“Judd”), along with his wife, Amy Claire Henderson. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Robert Judkins Henderson Jr. (RJ), Charlotte Elizabeth Henderson (“Charlie”), and Zelda Rosemarie Henderson.
Bobby was born on January 24, 1946, in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and began his career working with his brother Jimmy before going into business with his brothers Dean and Eddy at Henderson TV and Appliance.
He later found his niche in commercial sales with Ford Motor Company, where he faithfully served as a Fleet Manager for 34 years. Bobby also achieved notable success in duplicate bridge, reaching the highest level, Sapphire Life Master, within the American Contract Bridge League. In 2014, his team placed second in the world championship match in Chicago.
Above all, Bobby was a devoted father and a cherished “Grand-D.” He had a deep empathy for others and a way of connecting with people that inspired those around him to be better. He was generous with his time, love, and resources, especially toward his family.
He will be deeply missed, but we find comfort and hope in knowing that he is now with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held on April 29 at 9:30 a.m. at Leak Memory Chapel.
