

Robert “Bob” Leon Rogers, 69, passed away suddenly in his home Monday, May 17, 2021. He is now at peace in the arms of his Savior. Bob was born September 24, 1951 in Marion, Indiana to Doris and Donald Rogers of Fairmount Indiana. He grew up in the town of Fairmount attending Park Elementary, Middle school at the West Ward Middle School and Graduated from Fairmount High School in 1970. He graduated from Ball State University May 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree Majoring in Music and a Math Minor. Bob was a gifted musician, he loved playing the trombone. He was given opportunity to learn the Trombone from Mr. Charles Mart at the Third Street Wesleyan Church. Bob took to this right away and performed Trombone solos at the church and enjoyed his band class at school immensely. While enjoying music he also played football during his High School years. Through the years he played in different bands, even some that were back up bands for Anita Bryant and Pat Boone. He even tried his hand at acting. He can be seen as an extra in the movie, “The Long Walk Home”, with Sissy Spacek and Whoopi Goldberg, which was filmed in Montgomery, AL. Bob worked in and retired from the Alabama Department of Corrections. He worked primarily at the Draper Correctional Center in Elmore, AL and also worked as Officer at the William C. Holman Correctional Facility near Atmore, AL.While working as a Correctional Officer at Draper Correctional Center in Elmore, AL he founded a band with some of the prisoners going by the name of “Cross Bar City” which traveled around the State. He taught at Hooper Academy in Montgomery as a Band Teacher. His talents also extended to construction, especially as an electrician. He studied Nursing at Troy State University. In the 2016 and 2020 elections, Bob ran for the Alabama Second district US House of Representatives as a Republican.
Bob was proceeded in death by his parents, Donald and Doris Rogers, Uncle Oris and Aunt Ellen Rogers, Aunt Edna Dunn, Uncle Eldo and Aunts May and Irene Dunn, Uncle Carl Gray, and Aunt Fern and Uncle Paul Saunders. Bob is survived by his wife Clair; his son, Robert Delaneo “Lane” and Patricia Rogers and grand daughter Riley, his son Zachary “Zach” and Halo Rogers; his brother, David and Karen Rogers; Aunt Edith Gray; step daughter Cynthia Sexton and step granddaughter Austin Reynolds; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob will be missed by all his family and friends.
There will be a memorial service for Bob at Mountain Creek Baptist Church located at146 Hwy 143
Marbury, AL 36051 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm June 13, 2021.
