Roy Thomas Sublette was born August 17, 1928 in Montgomery, Alabama to Effie Thomas Sublette and Roy Newton Sublette. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and joined the Navy, serving at the end of World War II. After returning to Montgomery and meeting his future wife, God spoke to him and called him to preach. He graduated from Huntingdon College then attended Vanderbilt University where he received his Master of Divinity.
While pastoring United Methodist churches In the Alabama/West Florida Conference for 50-plus years, Roy’s ministry was marked with spreading the Gospel through strong evangelism. New churches were built, and memberships grew. After retirement he joined the staff of Frazer United Methodist Church and served many years in Congregational Care.
Roy was married to Jean for 73 years. They met on a blind date at a Sunday School picnic. Jean was the perfect preacher’s wife and together they built a loving family and served churches throughout south Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Next to the Lord, his family and friends, Roy loved watching football at all levels. He was one of the few that supported both Alabama and Auburn equally. His family knew he would bring a hat from each team to family gatherings and wear the winner at the end.
He leaves behind his loving wife Jean, two daughters, Sherry Murphree (Ed) of Houston, Texas, Sheila Sealy (Paul) of Titus, seven grandchildren, Mark Murphree (Tonia) of Houston, Texas, Lindsey Roland (Jeff) of Titus, Melissa Salbert (Casey) of Manvel, Texas, Amy Martinez (Lorenzo) of Saraland, Courtney Cox (Jonathan) of Auburn, Katie Brent (Eric) of Wetumpka and Alex Sealy of Wetumpka, and sixteen great grandchildren.
No public viewing or visitation will be held. The funeral will be held at Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery on Thursday, February 4 at 2:00 pm in the main sanctuary. Visitors are asked to wear a mask and distance themselves from others.
