

Ruth Carpenter, 96, of Montgomery, passed away April 18, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Huddleston Carpenter (deceased 1978); parents, Warren J Buckner and Emma Turner Buckner; brother, Warren Jackson Buckner, Jr.; and sister, Nancy Buckner Wood of Elmore, Alabama. She is survived by her sons, Robert Huddleston Carpenter, Jr. and Kenneth Warren Carpenter (Jessica Patrice Carpenter); grandchildren, Sydney Lauren Carpenter, John Huddleston Carpenter (Courtney Henderson Carpenter) and Kenneth Hudson Carpenter (fiancé – Olivia Dorothea Beckwith); great grandchildren, Price York Carpenter, Shelby Ann Carpenter (parents, John and Courtney).
Ruth worked as a sales associate in women’s clothing for many years before and after raising her children. Her career started at Vanity Fair in downtown Montgomery and later at Montgomery Fair, Gayfers and Dillards in East Montgomery. She was always conscious of her appearance and usually the best dressed whether in church or at the grocery store.
Ruth will be remembered for her devotion to husband Hud Carpenter, her children Bob and Ken and for her love for their families, her friends and, above all, her savior Jesus Christ. Ruth taught children’s Sunday School for many years assuming the role of Superintendent of the primary department at Highland Avenue Baptist Church before becoming a founding member of McGhee Road Baptist Church and later joining Morningview Baptist Church. She remained a faithful witness for Christ, leading by example rather than words. She was blessed with a long life and peaceful transition to her heavenly home.
Visitation for Ruth will be Monday, April 20, 2020 at Leak Memory Chapel from 5-7 PM. (Social distancing will be observed). A graveside service will follow, Tuesday April 21, 202 at 11:00 AM, at Crossroads Community Baptist Church, 150 Mt Hebron Rd, Elmore, AL 36025. (social distancing will be observed). The graveside service will be broadcast on Leak Memory Chapel Facebook Page.
