Sandra Joyce Roy Edwards, 83, of Dothan, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2025. She was born on February 5, 1942, in Deatsville, Alabama, to Thomas Jefferson Roy and Dorice Webb Roy.
Sandra graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1960. As a young woman, she took the bus to her first job at H.L. Green in downtown Montgomery. She later worked as a secretary for the Alabama Highway Department, where she met the love of her life, James Edwards. They married in 1966. She worked until their first child Spence was born, then left work to stay at home with him and later with his sister Tara. When the children were both old enough to go to school, she went back to work at the Gus Nichols Library on the campus of what is now Faulkner University. Years later, she worked at Alabama Christian Academy in their library for a short time.
Sandra was a devoted member of Redland Road Church of Christ (formerly Highland Gardens Church of Christ) for over 50 years. She faithfully served as a Bible teacher, VBS helper, and deacon’s wife.
A lifelong lover of books and reading, Sandra passed this passion on to her children and grandchildren. She cherished traveling—especially with lifelong friends—early morning walks on the beach collecting seashells, celebrating each and every holiday season, crafting, and collecting treasures of all kinds.
Sandra is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edwards; her parents, T.J. and Dorice Roy; her brother, James Roy; and her nephew, Jeremy Roy.
She is survived by her children, Spencer (Colleen) Edwards and their daughters, Mary Kate and Abigayle, and Tara (Alex) Murphree and their children, Lillian, Camille, and Alexander. She is also survived by her brother, Wayne Roy; nephews, Travis and Todd Roy; and great-nephew, Tyler Roy.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Grand South Senior Living Memory Care, Wiregrass Homecare, Ashley Wright, and Takeyla Robinson for their compassionate care.
Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama, with a service to follow at 10:00 a.m. Minister David Phillips will be officiating.
Sandra’s love, kindness, and devotion to her family and faith will be dearly missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.
