Shirley D Mixon

Shirley Jean Daughtrey Mixon was born on February 10, 1938, in Evergreen, Alabama, to the late John F. and Marie J. (Godwin) Daughtry. She was a member of a large family and is survived by three siblings: her brother, John Daughtery of Greenville, Alabama; her sister, Johnnie Palestina of New Orleans, Louisiana; and her sister, Patricia Cain of Cape Canaveral, Florida. Shirley married Sergeant Dempsey W. Mixon, and together they had one son. She was a devoted member of Perry Hill Road Baptist Church, where she actively participated in the children’s ministries, volunteered in the nursery, and helped decorate the church for liturgical occasions. Shirley dedicated her time to serving others both on the job and in her community. She worked in the cafeteria at a local school and held a position at Dillard’s. Shirley Mixon passed away from complications of dementia on December 11, 2025. The funeral service will take place at Leak Memory Chapel on Monday December 22, 2025, at 11:00AM. with Reverend Steve Nulph officiating. “May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
