Sylvia Mullins Sorrell Cochran

Sylvia was a loving Mother, Nana, and Wife, who loved her family more than anything. She also loved her dog Katie, and her cat Socks, who brought her a lot of joy.

She grew up in a mill community called Boylston, and both of her parents worked at the J.P. Stephens textile mill, that the community was built around.

She enjoyed singing in the church choir and she had a beautiful singing voice. As a teenager she sang regularly on The Country Boy Eddie television show in Montgomery, Al.

She spent most of her working career at the Alabama Department of Revenue and was given numerous awards for excellence during her time there.

She also enjoyed cooking for gatherings of family and friends and anyone who ate her food recognized that she was a very gifted cook.

For many years she enjoyed working in the yard and planting different types of blooming flowers. More recently, she had hummingbird feeders hanging on her front porch and would sit for hours in her rocking chair watching the hummingbirds fly to them.

She is preceded in death by her father Woodrow Mullins, and her mother Grace Mullins.

She is survived by her husband, Howard; Children, Mike Sorrell (Saundra) and Bill Sorrell; Stepchildren, Tom Cochran (Wendy) and Beth Womack (Chris); Sister, Marilyn Grider; Grandchildren, Stephen (Macy), Molly Grace, Ethan, Emma Claire, Wanda and Anna; Great grandchildren, Aubrey and Skylar; Nephew, Shannon

The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care that Sylvia received from the Hospice nursing staff, the Luverne Health and Rehabilitation nursing staff, and Chrissy Kelley.

A family and friends visitation for Sylvia will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at White Chapel. A Celebration of Life Chapel Service will occur Friday, May 17, 2024 at 2:00 PM. A graveside committal service will occur Friday, May 17, 2024 at Greenwood Cemetery.
