

Born December 30th, 1952 to Ruth Burke Hyde and Daniel Thomas Hyde in Niceville, Florida. As the son of an Air Force pilot, Tom spent much of his childhood moving around. He spoke Portuguese before English. He graduated high school in Washington state then started college in New Mexico where he met the love of his life Betty Lou Hill. They married a short time later and he enlisted in the Air Force where he was trained to be a radiologist. After separating from the Air Force, he continued his career in radiology inspiring and instructing hundreds of students to pursue their careers in radiology. He was a lifetime member and former president of the Alabama Radiological Society.
Tom and Betty were married 52 years. During their life together they raised two daughters and saw their family expand to include sons-in-law, grandchildrens and great-grandchildren. After retirement, he spent many hours a week playing guitar. He was also active in competitive shooting and radio-controlled aircraft as well as an avid camper.
He is preceded in death by his father Lt. Col. Daniel Thomas Hyde; mother, Ruth Elinore Burke Hyde; and sister Judith Anne Hyde.
He is survived by his wife Betty Lou Hyde; sister, Kathleen Hyde Albree (Joe); daughters, Michelle Hyde Peel (Joe); and Jacquelyn Hyde Word (Josh); grandchildren Elizabeth Louise-Peel Sheffield (Chris); Samantha Marie Root (Anthony); Ian Tyler Word (Yasmeen); and Drew Ashton Word; great-grandchildren Jeffrey Dean Sheffield, Felix Grant Root and Christian Carroll Sheffield.
