

William M. Gentry, 86, of Thomasville, GA passed away on September 7 at Archbold Hospital in Thomasville, GA. Bill grew-up in Montgomery and was the son of the late Homer S. Gentry and Frances C. Gentry of Francis Cafeterias. He was also predeceased by his wife of forty years, Jane G. Gentry, and daughter Peggy Gentry Schurdell. Survivors include children Emily (Grady) Sellers of Valparaiso, FL, Billie Claire (Rusty) Taylor of Montgomery, AL, William (Betsy) Gentry of Winter Park, FL and step-children DJ Wright (husband Glenn Woodsum) of Tallahassee, FL, Benjamin (Kim) Wright of Plant City, FL, Eddie (Gayle) Wright of Georgetown, FL and Matthew Wright of Oberlin, OH, and special family member David Brown of Valparaiso, FL, 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his faithful and constant companion and much loved dog, Buddy. Bill was a graduate of Starke University, Montgomery, AL and attended Auburn University prior to serving in the United States Air Force and United States Navy. He was a restaurant equipment rep for the southeast for his career life. Bill enjoyed “piddling” in his yard and sharing the fruits of his labor with his neighbors. He will be remembered as a very caring, generous, and humorous man. He brought a smile to all he met. Bill was very active in his church, First United Methodist Church of Thomasville, GA and loved serving as a volunteer in the Food Bank for his church. Graveside services will be Thursday, September 12 at 11:00 at Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery, AL with Rev. Rusty Taylor officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior, at 10:00 at Leak-Memory Chapel Funeral Home.
