
William Mathews Marks III, a life-long resident of Montgomery, AL and a descendant of Montgomery County Pioneers died peacefully after a brief illness on November 7, 2025. He was 88 years old. Born August 1, 1937, he was the elder son of Elva Quisenberry Marks and William Mathews Marks, Jr. Bill attended Cloverdale School and Sidney Lanier High School, graduating in 1955. He went on to The University of the South, Sewanee, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1959. While at Sewanee, Bill was a member of the Order of the Gownsmen, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and Captain of the tennis team. After returning home to Montgomery, Bill became active in the real estate business as a salesman, builder, and developer. Bill was a life-long member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where he served two terms as a member of the vestry. He was active in his community, an avid sports fan, devoted to his family, loved by his many friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carma Williams Marks; his son and daughter-in-law, William Mathews Marks IV and Karen Eller Marks; daughter, Anne Marks Warmington; his brother, Ralph Stanley Marks; and five adored grandchildren, Stewart Anne Marks, William Alexander Marks, Charles Hastings Warmington, Robert Chapman Warmington, and Andrews Marks Warmington.
Service will be on November 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM and St. John’s Episcopal Church with private interment at a later date. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service in the parish hall.
