February 10, 1932 – September 22, 2021
Brian died peacefully at Vigi Sante Queen Elizabeth in Montreal after a 2-year battle with leukemia.
Brian was predeceased by his parents, Beryl (Tootsie) Brown and John Bennett (Bill) McGuigan. Much loved and loyal brother to Joyce Nesmith (Matthew)
Above all else Brian loved his family and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan (Pepin), his four children, Sharon (Dan Billard), Kelly, Patti (John Outridge) and Tim (Barbara Desir), seven grandchildren, Eric, Paul, Colin, Scott, Marc, Christopher (Erin) and Kathleen and one great-grandson, Nathaniel, as well as his many nieces and nephews.
Brian was born and raised in Montreal. In 1954 he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University.
For 50 years Brian was a successful and well-respected real estate broker with Royal Trust, McGuigan Pepin Realties Inc. and with Royal LePage Heritage since 2019.
He was an enthusiastic sports fan, but golf was Brian’s true passion. An honorary member of Summerlea Golf and Country Club Brian served twice as Club President and won the Summerlea Club Championship ten times. His golfing pedigree includes: Low Amateur 1959 Canadian Open, winner of two Quebec Amateur championships in 1955 and on Royal Montreal’s Blue Course in 1961, six-time Willington Cup member, made six hole-in-ones and was still able to shoot his age until 2019. For the last 12 years Brian has been a proud member of the Royal Montreal Golf Club.
Brian was actively involved in the community, fundraising for many Montreal organizations including the Rotary Club, the Royal Montreal Curling Club, the Montreal Chamber Orchestra, and McGill University. Brian was Chairman of the 1966 Canadian Amateur Championship and the 1981 Peter Jackson LPGA Championship.
Brian was a "foodie" and enjoyed discovering new foods and great wines. He was always ready for a new adventure, a new restaurant, a party, or a trip to a new city or country.
He was a proper gentleman and was the first to offer to drive family or friends to appointments, to the airport, school or home from a party. Brian was a true and loyal friend to all.
He had a wonderful life, filled with loving family, treasured friends, and, of course, plenty of golf! One of his many other claims to fame were a golf game at Lyford Cay with Past President George Bush.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Cedars Cancer Centre for the compassionate nursing care, especially Brigitte, Tony, and Anna, the CLSC team for excellent care at home especially nurse Sherry, and for the kindhearted care from everyone during these last four months at the Vigi Sante Queen Elizabeth.
