Caterina (Lentini) Calabretta

Caterina was born on October 24, 1927, in Isca Sullo Ionio, Italy. She immigrated to Montreal in 1958 and lived here until 1984, when she returned to her cherished homeland to enjoy her retirement. In 2021, she came back to Montreal to be with her immediate family for her remaining years.

A woman of boundless love and care, Caterina’s passion was always to take care of those around her, especially her family. In her small town in Italy, her many friends and neighbors depended on her for help, whether it was assisting during illness or contributing her famous baked goods for celebrations. She was always there to listen, console, and offer kindness.

At the heart of her family, Caterina raised two daughters and a son with her devoted husband, Gino, who was always lovingly by her side. She was a source of generosity and warmth to her many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered as a loving matriarch, cherished by all who knew her.

Caterina was predeceased by her husband Gino, her son-in-law Michael, her parents Vittorio and Anna Maria, her brothers Vincenzo (Gina), Gregorio (Elvira), Fiore, and Sestinio, her brother-in-law Pietro, and her nephew Vittorio.

She is survived by her son, Tony (Ester); her daughters, Clara (Heinz) and Maria; her sister, Natalina; her sisters-in-law Elisa and Gemma; her grandchildren Caterina (Tracy), Kathryn (Eric), Gino Robert, Gino Anthony (Sarah), and Natalie (Mitch); as well as eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, all of whom are heartbroken by her passing.

Caterina will live forever in our hearts, and we will cherish the many precious memories she leaves behind.
