

Doreen Mary Kane (nee Doherty) passed away peacefully on October 7, 2011 at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Redmond Kane. She is survived by her three children, Kevin, Kathleen Drouin (Tom) of Glen Ellyn, IL, Christopher (Heiderose) of Victoria, B.C., grandchildren Anique Drouin (Ben Wakefield) of Batavia, IL., and great grandson, Callum Drouin Wakefield.
Doreen was born in 1923 as the only child of Joseph and Bessie Doherty. She was a proud graduate of Miss Edgar's & Miss Cramp's School. She married Redmond in 1946 and shortly after started a family. Dorren was a devoted mother and consummate grandmother. Throughout her lifetime Doreen participated in many philanthropic activities, including the N.D.G. Community Council, Meals on Wheels, Catholic Women's League and the auxiliaries of St. Mary's Hospital and The Montreal General Hospital. She served with distinction as a founding and longstanding board member of The Lindsay Memorial Foundation, contributing for over 30 years, many of them as president. She served as a board member and president of the Montreal Convalescent Hospital Center and served on the Board of Ami Quebec. Doreen retired from real estate in 2001 after a successful 50 year career.
In later life Doreen was supported by many in her community. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to those who contributed to her quality of life; CLSC, NDG-Montreal West, Meals on Wheels-Montreal West, St. Ignatius Eucharistic Ministers, Forward House, Budning Pharmacy staff and the dear friends and family who called, wrote and visited her until the end. A special thank you goes to her devoted caregivers Gloria, Micky and Sheri. The last 22 months of her life were made better by the loving and devoted staff, residents and their families at Mount Sinai Hospital.
A wake will be held on Sunday, October 30th at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Liturgy of the Word will be conducted at Collins Clarke at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31st followed by a reception. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Lindsay Memorial Foundation, Ami Quebec or Mount Sinai Hospital.
