

A caring and beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Friend and Educator!
On Tuesday, 23 August 2022, Professor Fassil Nebebe, a caring and beloved husband, father, friend and educator, unexpectedly passed away. He was seventy-two.
Professor Nebebe (addressed as, Dr. Fassil, by everyone in his community) was born on 2 September 1949 to Ms. Yitaktu Mazengia and Mr. Nebebe Birru in the town of Kibre Mengist in the former province of Sidamo in Southern Ethiopia.
After completing his elementary and secondary school in Kibre Mengist, Professor Nebebe continued his education and earned his BSc from Haile Selassie I University in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, his MSc from Southampton University in Southampton, England, and his PhD from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Professor Nebebe joined the Faculty of Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec in 1986 and taught graduate and undergraduate courses in applied linear statistical models, research methods, managerial statistics, and business statistics. He was a professor of Supply Chain and Business Technology Management.
His research areas included Bayesian and empirical Bayes methods in small areas, Gibbs sampling, data modeling and statistical computing. He was a distinguished scholar in those areas. He published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, refereed conference proceedings and presentations. He served as a Dean of Supply Chain and Business Technology Management at John Molson School of Business. He was well liked and respected by his students and faculty members.
Professor Nebebe is remembered for his calm and balanced personality. He had a loving and caring heart. He was engaged in the affairs of Montreal Ethiopian community and was one of the most sought-after community leaders for his guidance and support. He liked reading, hiking, camping, and probing latest information technologies.
Professor Nebebe is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ms. Zufan Mehari, his two sons, Brook and Aklil Nebebe, granddaughter Naseeleah, his sister Achamyelesh and many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family, in-laws, and friends.
A memorial (viewing) service is scheduled for Friday, 26 August 2022, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 Ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montréal, QC H3V.
A church service will be held on Saturday, 27 August 2022, between 8 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. at Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Medhanealem, located at 7905 Av. Stuart, Montreal. The funeral (burial) will take place the same day at 1 p.m. at Cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, located at 4601 Ch. de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montréal, QC H3V 1E7. Following the funeral service, lunch will be served in honour of Professor Nebebe, at the premises of Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges.
