1944 – 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Mizgala. He died at St Mary’s Hospital, December 15th at the age of 76 from complications after hip surgery.
He joins his beloved daughter Jennifer, his brother John, his nephew Michel and his parents Louis and Marie Mizgala. He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Renée, his son David (Agnieszka), his grandsons Ian and Patrick, his brothers Henry and Charles, as well as many nephews and nieces, cousins and friends who will all miss him deeply.
Frank was born in Montreal and went to Loyola High School. He graduated from Loyola College with a B. Comm and while working at the accounting firm of Touche Ross & Co. he received his Chartered Accounting Degree from H.E.C. Frank continued to be very active with the Loyola Alumni, serving on the Board for many years and receiving an Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution.
While studying for his CA he met his future wife, Renée, whom he married in 1969. After their two children, David and Jennifer, were born, Frank took the plunge and opened his own Accounting Firm, Mizgala & Cie, where he worked with pride and passion all of his life.
Often cited as a “workaholic”, Frank still made time to be the stable rock he was to his family and friends. He had a generosity of spirit and was always available to solve any problem big or small. He worked hard, but he also enjoyed his two favorite pastimes – golf every Saturday morning and fly-fishing with his brother, Henry, in B.C. Holidays with the family were spent at the beach in New Jersey where building sandcastles and moats was on the daily agenda. As the children grew up, Frank was only too happy to help them in their homes, whether it was putting in a wood floor or fixing the plumbing. He had energy to spare and was known for his joie de vivre and infectious laugh.
The family wishes to thank the staff on 6 South at St Mary’s Hospital for their kindness and compassion in his final days. In his memory, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Memorial Service celebrating Frank’s life will be announced when Covid is officially over.
