It is with heavy hearts that we announce that our father suddenly passed away on April 18th 2022 whilst at CHSLD de Saint-Henri, aged 79 years with his wife Gloria at his bedside. Devoted father, treasured and cherished by his children Jean-Patric, Aaron Shea, Benjamin Kevin, Melodee and his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, students and anyone who knew him for sharing his vast knowledge and jokes with others. He is the son of Paul-Émile April and Lauréa Dionne and loved his bothers Gilles, Denis, Fernand , Jean-Claude very much. His surviving family member is his last brother Marc whom he has always been proud of.
GEORGES-ÉMILE was a dedicated Electronic Engineering Professor who worked for at École Polytechnique de Montréal for 50 years teaching the students of the future, inventing new ideas , exploring the possibility of the latest changes in the world of electronics and creating a new programming languages. He could always be seen taking something apart to learn how it worked or tinker with things to make them work better. He collaborated with other professors to invent and patent a unique Energy Storage Device and Modular Circuit as well as defeating challenges. He has published wide variety of works focusing on topics close to his heart, which have been translated in many languages and as well as co-authoring with other professors to share his wealth of knowledge with all. For those who knew Georges-Emile, they would have known he had many sides to him, very methodical and passionate in his field of study , while always applying humour where he could. He raised future engineers on standard he believed were important and saw the importance of having more women in the field to grow and support engineering further.
He would often be heard saying, "I sometimes get the feeling technology is shooting itself in the foot. By using technology to replace thinking"
He loved watching documentaries on anything under the sun and for a good chuckle read Hägar-Horrible while defeating the crossword puzzles found in the newspapers.
"Everywhere there is a tree there was a purpose for it" and he championed the importance of them on the environment and how the impact of our society is affecting the balance of it.
He loved to take photographs and always had the latest contraption on hand from a camera watch to depth taking picture cameras. No matter where he was he would always love a good laugh and use it to help overcome difficulties. He would often forget to eat lunch when being caught deep in thought and would buy a basket of tomatoes to keep him content. Georges-Emile even used humour in everyday life even up to his final days to bring a smile to his face.
No one knows how much we miss you,
No one knows the sharp bitter pain
We suffer, since we can no longer be able to hear your laughter.
Life will never be the same without you in it.
In our hearts your memory will stay true
always there for us, and fondly true
There is not a day, dear PAPA,
That we do not think of you.
