Guy Quinn

In celebration of Guy Quinn, born Feb. 15, 1950 in Hamilton, Ontario who died peacefully at home on June 14, 2024 after living with lymphoma for the past two years. He is survived by his partner of 41 years, Monica Giacomin, and his three sons… Marty (Jayna), Elliot (Lia Chiasson) and Liam, grandchildren Ella, Katie, Mason and Nora, brother Barry (Louise). He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and good friends, especially Ian & Karen, Tom & Anne, Rudy & Susanne, Bruce, Doug and Steve. Guy is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Jean, his siblings Philip, Pat (Sandra), and Carol Ann.

After playing football and graduating from Youngstown State University, Guy came to Montreal and pursued a career with the Physical Education Dept. at Vanier College in 1976. He retired 35 years later with several accolades and accomplishments including the development of the “Explorations” Program for under-achieving students, creating and promoting integrative and inclusive pedagogy across the curriculum, establishing annual Earth Day Festivals with his Earth Lodge members, implementing the Employee Fitness Program and winning the Vanier College Teaching Excellence Award in 2007 for his leadership in life-long learning and innovative teaching methods, especially in his outdoor classroom.

During that time, Guy became a valued member of many circles including playing Rugby for TMR and the Quebec Provincial Team, coaching St. Laurent Hockey, leading St. Laurent Cub and Scout troops, initiating the Lauren Hill Rugby Program, guiding Seascape kayak tours and most recently, mentoring educators in the Coyote Nature Connection Program.

A celebration of Guy’s life and many accomplishments will be held at Vanier College on August 31st at 2:00 in the Auditorium.
