Beloved partner, father, and friend
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Barter on Saturday, September 27, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He was lovingly cared for by his devoted partner of 25 years, Giuliana (Julie) Furlanetto, whose unwavering support and compassion were a constant source of strength.
John was a father of two daughters, Melanie (Felix) and Isabelle (Niall) and grandfather of Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Maisie Violet Barter, and by his brother Clive.
John was a graduate of Queen Mary University, London, UK in engineering and worked for several engineering firms in Montreal.
John found joy in travel, opera, theater and classical music with Julie sharing countless memories. His heart was most at peace at the chalet, canoeing with his dog Bently and cherishing the peace and tranquility of nature.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his dry sense of humor, generosity, volunteering, and overall being a decent and kind person. He was loved by many and found goodness in all. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the love he gave, and the quiet courage with which he faced each day.
Visitation will be held in his honor on Saturday, October 18, 2025, between the hours of 13h and 17h at the Centre funéraire Côte-des-Neiges, 4525 Chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, QC H3V 1E7.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
