A sister, mother, wife and more, she lived a life that spanned thousands of kilometers and touched so many. A native of Bridgetown, Barbados, she took a leap of faith at 25 and followed her late husband Delmarnet Skinner across an ocean to start a new beginning in Montreal, Canada with their toddler Fernando in tow.
She built a beautiful life in Montreal. She was the kind of mother who made her son wear pillows on his bottom when he went to the skating rink, because she just wanted him to be safe. When her granddaughter went on a run, she’d stand in the window and stare out the entire time to make sure she got home alright. She was known at church for her lovely singing voice, and to eat anything she cooked was a blessing. A great dresser, she always looked sharp and loved to wear red nail polish on her beautiful hands.
Preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Elise Broomes, two sisters Erla and Monica, and two brothers Leon and David. She is survived by her son Fernando, granddaughters Kayleigh (Terry) and Shannon, great grandchildren Delmarnet and Brooks. Brothers Charles (Evadney deceased), Lloyd and John (Heather), sisters Phyllis (Bentley deceased), Octavia (Vere) and sisters in law, Juann, Lannie and Lena as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Barbados, Canada and USA.
She was a devoted member of Trinity Anglican Church until its closing, then St.Thomas Anglican Church.
She will be missed by many, but never forgotten.
A viewing will be held at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White, 5610 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal, Quebec H4A 1W5 from 3 to 8 pm on Thursday November 7th 2024.
