It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Marena, who succumbed to a courageous three-year battle against pancreatic cancer on April 1. Maria died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Born to the late Erminio and Angela Marena, Maria was a cherished sister to the late Filomena (Luigi), late Teodoro (Antonietta), and late Domenico. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Veloce. Maria was a devoted mother to the late Guglielmo (Maddalena), Teodoro, and Nicola. She was a beloved grandmother to Anthony (Amanda), Guglielmo, Karina (Ants), and Enrico, and a treasured great-grandmother to Milena and Alexia. Maria was also a beloved aunt to her nephews and nieces.
Maria's strength and resilience were an inspiration to all who knew her. We owe a heartfelt gratitude to her oncologist, Dr. Asselah, as well as Dr. Arianne, Dr. Laura and the nursing staff from the 9th floor Internal Medicine team at Royal Victoria Hospital and the CLSC nurse Alison Quinn, for their excellent care and compassion during her illness.
Maria leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and an unyielding spirit. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, whose lives she touched in so many ways.
Condolences will take place at the Côte-des-Neiges funeral home on Tuesday April 15 from 9am to 12pm, follow by a Celebration of Life at 12:30pm and burial at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery at 2:15pm. All who knew and loved her are welcome to join in honoring her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Maria's memory to pancreatic cancer research.
